Love is simply complicated
Love is the most complicated thing. It's a concept I'll constantly be trying to wrap my head around. It is the reason behind everything. We celebrate Easter and good Friday, knowing the reason why Jesus died on the cross and saved us from our sin is that He loves us deeper than can be fathomed. In 1 John 4:19, we discover that we love because Christ first loved us. The hardest thing to do is love but to love is also the easiest thing to do.
Recently I've discovered some amazing things about love.
Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Whether the distance is physical, spiritual, or both spending time away from the ones you love in some strange way only makes you love them more.
To let go and let God, is a pure kind of love. When you are able to do hard things for the ones you care about you experience a new depth to love.
A broken heart is a blessing. In order to have a broken heart, you have to love something or someone. Most of the time you are lucky enough to be loved back. Even though broken hearts feel like curses they are really signs of deep compassion and love for others.
Most importantly I've learned that the greatest of loves is silent. We can love without the people we love ever realizing the depths of our emotions. Love is an action but that doesn't mean it has to be loud. The action of love doesn't have to be something everyone sees or even something the receiver of your love sees or hears. It's the silent whispers in patience. It is fighting in prayer. It is the desire to see them happy even if you don't get to be the one making them happy. It is trusting that God the ultimate master of love and understanding that He does all things because He loves you. None of us can really explain however we all know what it is.
Love is simply complicated.
The goal is to never understand love but simply strive to be love. Being able to say "I am patient and kind; I do not envy or boast; I am not arrogant or rude. I do not insist on my way; I am not irritable or resentful; I do not rejoice in wrong doing, but I rejoice in the truth. I bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things." (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) And having that statement be true. A life with love is a life that has been lived. We have been designed to love. As we embrace the world and love unconditionally alongside our Father we begin to better understand Him. No matter how much we love others, it will never be as pure as Christ's love. We will never understand the love He has for us and the love it takes to ensure the cross.
We are alive to be like Christ. To love him and to love others.
"I love you" can not be said or expressed enough. This world craves the love of God but doesn't want to accept it. As we celebrate the ultimate act of love may we also step out in love and let this simply complicated feeling be who we are. When you embark on the adventure to love remember, we love because Christ first loved us.
