Look up is a very amazing, empowering, and view changing video about social media directed, written and created by Gary Turk. Watching the video you are struck with the reality that our "social media" is really making us unsocial. It takes away the face to face conversations, and our ability to communicate. Social media allows people to know what you are doing but not who you are. We have energy but instead of doing something productive we just sit around doing mind less activities on our phones or computers. The ultimate challenge of the video is to learn to co-exist or have the time spent on your social networks and video game be very limited. Instead read a book, clean, exercise, go out side, the list can go on and on. I am so guilty of this too but we just can't be a generation of idiots, smart phones and dumb people.
Take up the challenge that the video displays look up from your smart phones and take in the display. Take in your soundings an make the most of today. Be there in every moment! Give life attention don't waist all your time staring at some invention. Give people your love and not your like, go out into the world and leave distractions behind.
Day Two: March 19, 2018 Long cramped bus rides, extreme bonding, and gorgeous scenery filled out the day. Today we went to the New Hope Academy in La Vega . It is breathtaking to hear how God has worked a nd provided. He has truly transformed the ministry with their new “mansion on a hill.” The Dominican is a beautiful and blossoming place where a load of people lives and are experiencing God on the move. Luke 10:2 “ He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. ” The biggest lesson I learned today was to trust the wind and the waves. This isn’t just me striving to be poetic. The reckless beauty and dignified strengths of the wind and waves have become a simple to me of how the Lord works and moved in mighty and po werful ways. We do not serve a God of mindless movements but one of intentional and radical relati...
The past weeks have been crazy. I have wanted to post but days fly by so quickly. Anyways... As you read through Psalm 119 you see a lot of repetition. The psalmist brings us through his life as a Christian. We see the highs and lows, but we also see something that is constant. His reliance on scripture is constant. He ends the psalm by saying "I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands." It is difficult to not get caught up in our daily struggles. Through these past weeks I have experienced some low moments, but I have never felt closer to God. Samuel Smiles puts the idea of lows poetically into words, "The battle of life is, in most cases, fought uphill: and to win it without a struggle were perhaps to win it without honor. If there were no difficulties, there would be no success: if there were nothing to struggle for, there would be nothing to be...
As life seams to speed up and the week comes to a close this song comes into my mind. The world will always pull us deeper in but we are our best selves when we give God the rains and let Him tug on our hearts. Pastor Charles Stanley once said, "Earthly wisdom is doing what comes naturally. Godly wisdom is doing what the Holy Spirit compels us to do." The world is all about quick fixes, but God knows that our pain, or problems can be solved with his love. Our Messiah came to fix our messes. All we have to do is clear our stages and fix our eye toward our king. Listen to this song with an open heart, and open mind: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." - Romans 12:2 This is the constant battle all Christians face. Not falling into the...
